Made from "special dispersion glasses" the objective is an air-spaced doublet of 600mm focal length. TeleVue maintain that the design has less colour aberration than an f/8 doublet or triplet fluorite objective of comparable aperture. Multilayer anti reflective coatings on the objective's four air to glass surfaces result in excess of 94% light transmission in the visible spectrum, giving the scope 140 times the light gathering capacity of the naked eye. The inside surface of the tube is covered with flat-black textured material to prevent internal reflections. The 2 inch rack-and-pinion focuser is as smooth as silk, and the scope comes with TeleVue's fantastic 2" Everbrite Diagonal.

Weighing in at a mere 8 lbs, the TeleVue 85 is well suited to the TelePod and Panoramic mounts.

The TV-85 is usually in stock as the Ivory Tube with 2¼ focusser and 2¼ Everbrite star diagonal, 2" to 1¼" adaptor, ring mount and a 20mm Plossl. It is available in brass and Evergreen or as an Evergreen or ivory OTA only by special order with Venturescope. It comes in a fitted bag, and as an optional extra, there is a 45° erecting prism (for terrestrial use) and a Field Flattener (for the more serious astronomical photographers) to eliminate the effects of curvature of field.
